Our Standards
Our Standards
Ethics and safeguarding, from day one.
Trust is the foundation of this work. Here’s exactly how we protect the people who come to us.
How we protect our clients
Confidential, always
All client data is kept strictly confidential, in compliance with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.
Informed consent
Informed consent is obtained from every client before admission and treatment begins.
Entirely voluntary
No client is admitted or held involuntarily. All treatment at Safeways is voluntary.
Formal grievance process
A formal complaints and grievance procedure is in place from day one of operation.
Non-discriminatory
No client is denied treatment on the basis of gender, religion, ethnicity, disability, or HIV status.
Protecting minors
Clients under 18 are only admitted with written parental or guardian consent, and are housed separately in an age-appropriate setting.
Safeguarding-trained staff
Every staff member completes safeguarding training before having any contact with clients.
External clinical oversight
Regular external clinical supervision and peer review support the quality of care we provide.
Monitoring & evaluation
We track outcomes, not just activity. Progress is measured using standardised addiction severity scores at intake (AUDIT, DAST-10), weekly clinical progress notes, and structured follow-up calls at 30, 60, and 90 days post-treatment. Programme data is compiled monthly, and — for funded programmes — reported quarterly to sponsors and shared annually in a public impact report.
